Steven Seagal gets his hands dirty
When I was a kid, I always had trouble spelling Wednesday. I always forgot the ‘n’ for some reason. I don’t have that problem anymore, part of being a professional writer entails that you can effectively spell the days of the week. Another thing that is apparently required for being a writer, you have to cover daily news stories on celebrities.
Your Daily Drama Wednesday December 2, 2009.
Steven Segal is now a cop…in real life, at least in the world of Reality T.V. The star of such groundbreaking films as Out of Justic, Under Seige, and every film professor’s favorite, Above the Law, is now moving to A&E for his own show.
Apparently, Segal has been an unpaid volunteer for Lousiana’s Jefferson Parish Sherrif’s office since the mid 80’s. He doesn’t want the attention on him, though, rather the
police department.
“I’m nervous about the way things may be interpreted; I don’t want people to think I’m doing this for attention or to benefit me,” says Seagal. “I just hope this gives a shot to New Orleans and the police who need help. They need a voice for the fine work they’re doing.”
They also need to revive their image of a police force accused of leaving their posts during Katrina.
Hey, I admire the work that Segal appears to be doing. I understand the concern in the show being about him, especially since it’s called “Lawman.” Network execs are so confident that people will understand situations aren’t contrived, they can’t finish a sentence without talking about how dangerous everything is.
“It just so happens that Steven Seagal is a movie star, but this is not made for TV, where there are second takes or things staged,” Jefferson Parish Col. John Fortunato says. “He’s out patrolling areas where there’s a considerable amount of crime. This is for real.”
Well, let’s not go that far—Steven Seagal isn’t exactly a movie star. I could pass him walking down the street, and unless I was shoplifting, I probably wouldn’t even notice him.
Susan Boyle can give the genie his lamp back now. Look at her, smiling like it’s Christmas morning. Want to know why? The British Talent show contestant sold 700,000 copies of her debut-album “I dreamed a Dream.”
She’s already working on her next album, “Don’t wake me the hell up.”
It’s a record first week for 2009, and gives her the chances to be the best-selling debut by a women in the Billboard Soundscan era. I don’t know what that means. I think it’s just a fancy way of saying Susan Boyle now has more money than she knows what to do with.
It goes to show Dreams can come true, and you don’t have to sleep your way to the top.
Unless there’s something we should all know Tiger…
…What’d I say?
