Highway Robbery
It’s Wednesday, or hump day for those in the 9 to 5 workforce. For those of us living in Hollywood, it’s the same day as yesterday or the day before it; most of us are still unemployed and spending our time at gyms and coffee shops. I continue on with the drama, and continue my boycott all news on the infamous golfer. It’s not just celebrities today, though, I have actual news within the industry, which we’ll get to. First, here’s the garbage:

Your Daily Drama for December 9, 2009.
Uncle Jessie is feeling the heat from possible extortionists. Two individuals were arrested for allegedly trying to extract close to 700 grand from John Stamos, who famously played Jessie Katsopolis on T.G.I.F.’s Full House. They apparently have photos of him from a party that can damage his career. This story already has the words “allegedly” and “apparently” attached to it so many times, it’s basically worthless. One has to wonder how much of a negative impact the photos could have on the actor’s career. Stamos has countless episodes, appearing daily in syndication, in which he appears in the same scene with Kimmy Gibbler. If he can survive that, I say hold onto your dough.
Speaking of holding onto your dough, what do we make of the latest string of Hollywood burglaries? Since this is the first time I’ve heard about them, I’m saying, not much. Apparently it all began with Orlando Bloom and Lindsay Lohan being robbed, now Nicky Hilton is the latest to get in on the act. Thieves took a laptop and some crystal from her house. The items were devastating losses, comparable to Benjamin Franklin misplacing his bifocals or Davey Crockett losing his raccoon hat.
Her sister, Paris, (who I’m sure I will be boycotting soon enough) was robbed an estimated $2 million worth of property from her home this year, which if I had to guess, was
probably a couple of dog collars and a state-of-the-art fish tank, that Hilton had yet to even put water in.
God bless America.
But, as promised, here is the latest industry news, outside of fake celebrities and 90’s television stars:
A shake-up was announced earlier this week in the public relations world. For those of you who are outside of the Hollyood Bubble, and just kind of pay attention to The Hills, public relations firms are the ones that get celebrity faces on television and in the news. They’re the patriots that have made the folks like Miley Cyrus famous.
PMK/HBH has merged with BNC. The combined firms will represent more than 160 staff, and represent more than $70 million in gross billing.
“The idea was that during these transformational times right now we wanted a game-changer,” an insider explained in regards to the situation. “It united two very powerful brands and will change the PR landscape in Hollywood.”

Basically, with the economy being crappy, instead of two firms possibly hurting one another, they decided to join and become friends, avoiding that pesky little competition thing. Another factor is PMK/HBH can now use BNC management strength to support it’s roster.
No word on which fancy building the new firms will purchase in order to fully display their P.R. plumage. I think the Getty might be off limits, but maybe they could pull some strings and just buy out the Museum of Tolerance, especially if they’re going to continue marketing Miley Cyrus.
Now I feel better…
