Acted By Uncut: Deadline Drama, Publicists, and Anthony Hopkins – Part Three
“This raw uncut footage is of Acted By’s Paul and Megan at their Santa Monica office, discussing the very first of many “obstacles” they faced in the beginning stages of building a video magazine. With a tight budget, web guy(s) gone awol, coding in China, disintegrating website in America, a rebuild followed by a crash without back up, other video tech atrocities, and no sleep EVER…there’s more….”
“Here’s what happened: Right at the height of the “construction phase,” a very sweet publicist with a very type A
personality (and someone we’d never worked with before) wanted Acted By to do profile pieces on a few of her actors. Instead of a rain check, we took it on. Mistake number fifty. From the request to keep the photo shoot closed off followed by models banging on the door during the interview and Billy Zane waltzing in randomly during the actual shoot, it was understandably any type A’s worst nightmare of disorder. Paul and Megan’s nightmare came shortly after when their site went up in flames on the launch date. Emails flooded in from the anxious publicist. I felt powerless and mad. Five days later, the website was up and running…
“Acted by Uncut is an online video journal roughly documenting what it’s like for a small group of writers/actors to start an online video magazine. With print mags dying, video online publications are statistically reported as the way of the future. Acted By is the first to transition a special niche print mag into video. Without any role models before them, we blindly walk ahead while making mistakes, pushing through the moments of doubt, and doing our best. That’s all we can do.
Basically,…this is real L.A. reality and not that stuff you see on MTV. Not even close.” – Megan Rellahan
